Over Fifty Expo

The Southwest Virginia Higher Education Center is hosting the first annual Over Fifty Expo on July 20, 2013 from 9am until 4pm. This event will be held in the classrooms, the lobbies and the Grand Hall of the Center in Abingdon, Virginia. The target audience for this event will be those over fifty years of age and all others who are interested in senior products and services.

Utilizing the Center’s over 95,000 sq.ft. building and its 12,000 sq.ft. Grand Hall, the Expo will offer over 20 classes in healthcare, the legal issues of aging, finance, investing and other areas of interest for the over fifty population, as well as two screening clinics conducted by the Edward Via College of Osteopathic Medicine and the Appalachian College of Pharmacy. Over 65 exhibition booths for vendors to showcase themselves and/or sell related services and products will be made available.

Admission: All pre-registered individuals will also receive the 2013 edition of the Virginia State Bar’s Senior Citizens Handbook; Laws & Programs Affecting Senior Citizens in Virginia.

Screening Clinic: The Edward Via College of Osteopathic Medicine will conduct a clinic that will screen for the most common diseases/problems affecting the aging population.

"Brown Bag” Medication Screening: the Appalachian College of Pharmacy will offer a drug/medication clinic in which the public is invited to bring in all their medications (prescription and over-the-counter) to be analyzed for potential harmful interactions, cross reactions, redundancies, and general usefulness.
